During my bday week, my favourite dentist Dr Cheng – and the boss of i.Dental Invisalign Dedicated Clinic – was kind enough to host a session of dinner and drinks for my friends and I, celebrating 28 years of my wackiness and embracing whatever life throws at us.
I shared in a small presentation more about my journey, and even made a cool blue invite for the event called “Estelle’s teeth party”. I considered asking my doctor if I could create blue cocktails in mouthwash bottles for the special day, too. Wouldn’t that go perfectly with white chocolate toothpaste? Can you tell I have a wild imagination and a sweet tooth? Don’t you want to know what other crazy party ideas I have? Ok, I digress.
The locale of my “teeth party”, next door to their clinic, is right smack in the CBD – it was super easy for most of my friends who work for banks, law firms and other offices in the area to drop by for hi’s and hugs.
Cheers to growing older together, but not uglier!
Those who have seen my first blogpost know that it’s been about 6 months since I’ve started Invisalign at i.Dental Invisalign Dedicated Clinic (Capital Tower) and I’m completely, wholly, extremely pleased with how fast I’m seeing my teeth straighten out. My side profile has improved a great deal as well.
It’s fine if you can’t afford it or have no desire to improve your appearance or your life, but I truly wish for my friends to be the best versions of themselves and this is definitely one of the steps included. Let me first bust some myths that all of us office workers or corporate slaves might expect about Invisalign, but are oh-so-wrong.
MYTH 1: “WHAT’S THIS THING? WHO CARES? IT’S JUST TEETH, MAN.”
I won’t wax lyrical about something that doesn’t add value to my life, but this treatment has changed not just my teeth, but my perception of myself and everything else. Let’s face it – having a nicer face leads to better opportunities, connections, and conversations. It’s been proven in research and in the attractive people we stalk on the internet all the time. I’ve always felt somewhat ugly with crooked teeth and hated my side profile, but this treatment has improved both these things. Invisalign has earned me much more CONFIDENCE and opened the door to more JOB OPPORTUNIES.
MYTH 2: “INVISALIGN LOOKS HORRIBLE”
MYTH 3: “INVISALIGN IS TOO TROUBLESOME.”
The best part of the process is how insanely convenient this is. I used to wear braces and trust me, the metal cuts and hurts. You feel something foreign is in your mouth (Aliens? No, it’s just metal braces). Invisalign’s plastic feels like a second skin to my teeth, it doesn’t rub against my gums or lips at all the way metal braces does, and it’s invisible.
My eyes are gobblygooky but my teeth are getting so straight with #Invisalign ! Been about 5 months since I’ve started this treatment at i.Dental Invisalign Dedicated Clinic @ Capital Tower – betcha can’t even tell that I’m wearing Invisalign here right???:D #straightteeth #almostthere A video posted by Estelle Kiora (@estellekiora) on
Once every 2 months, I pop into the i.Dental Invisalign Dedicated Clinic office in the CBD for 20-40min (I usually have meetings in the area anyway).
I always pass all my check ups, and collect my upcoming aligners. (I’m at my 11th out of 23 aligners – almost half way through!)
MYTH 4: “I CAN JUST WEAR INVISALIGN WHEN I FEEL LIKE IT, RIGHT?”
The most important thing you need to know about Invisalign is that you really need to wear this about 20-22 hours a day, taking them out only during meals or when absolutely necessary. I can’t help nagging all the time at a few of my friends – who are doing Invisalign as well – but only wear them during bedtime.
What are you doing, spending all that effort and wasting the result? Such poor practices do hinder the improvement of teeth straightening. If you were an athlete who expects to cross the finish line of a marathon, would you cut all your training in half?
You get from life what you give. Same goes for the hours put in with Invisalign. It’s really not a lot of effort to remember to wear them most of the time.
During my last visit at i.Dental Invisalign Dedicated Clinic, Dr Cheng told me that I’m wearing my aligners pretty well (I try to wear them at least 20 hours most days), but that I’m not using my green chewie thing (a special rubber I bite a few times on to make sure the Invisalign sits properly on my teeth).
That’s exactly true. How does he know?! He either has mind powers or has a lot of experience… Or both!
MYTH 5: “I’M A WHITE COLLAR WORKERSOCIALITE/TAI TAI WITH A LOT OF LONG, BUSINESS LUNCHES/HIGH TEAS/DINNERS. HOW DO I WEAR MY INVISALIGN THEN?”
Most of my friends are surprised when I tell them I’m wearing “braces” – they can’t see it at all! I always have to explain this unnoticeable, stealth, magical product as “invisible braces” and that it’s called Invisalign – some people have heard of it before, others haven’t.
I just remove the Invisalign right before my meals and pop it back in when I’m done eating – even if people are still hanging around for dinner and drinks. I drink tea, coffee, whisky and wine with Invisalign.
Red wine is not advisable but I’ve done it before, oops. Sometimes I just can’t help it when my friends open a bottle at OverEasy and shove me a glass.
This means that my Invisalign stains a bit more than usual, but I change to a new aligner every 10-14 days so it’s not that noticeable anyway.
MYTH 6: “EATING AND KISSING”
Kiss your old self goodbye and say hello to your new improved smile and confidence. Not only does Invisalign treatment not affect your kissing (I haven’t found anyone I want to try this with yet, but I have heard), but it will make you more presentable and kissable in the long run.
It’s also easy to remove and put on in seconds, making it possible to eat messy objects or big things… Like erm, burgers.
Say yes to girlfriends! Clients! Burgers!
Life is unfair – a few people are born with perfect teeth and appearances, but the rest of us less lucky ones now have a shot at improving ours, too. I’m incredibly glad that I’ve taken the right steps so far with this treatment and it has improved my side profile, my conversations, and my confidence.
Think about Invisalign to improve your smile and facial structure, why don’t you?
